Lol, those are some stupid-ass looking cars.

I’ve never owned one, but rented one within the first couple of months that it came out. Driving it around at that time was almost surreal with the amount of joy on everyone’s face that you would encounter on the roads. People were genuinely excited to see such a different take on an American vehicle. They were even difficult to obtain for a couple years early on because so many people wanted one. But they turned out to be a fad with no staying power.

I got mine for about 3 grand used. The speedometer didn’t work (not a huge deal in Texas, no one does the speed limit and if you aren’t doing 90 the cops aren’t going to bother with you) and it looked like someone was murdered in the back seat.

I loved my cruiser, it was great on gas (literally a Dodge Neon with a different body), had good get up and go, and it was big enough to carry what I needed but not big enough friends would ask me to help move.

What you should be asking is why people bought the Dodge Magnum, it’s a station wagon and its barely better than the ones from the 70’s and 80’s.

I agree that they look stupid, but they make a pretty comfortable and reliable commuter car.

I didn’t seek mine out; it was my dad’s before he died. I got several years of use out of it with no major mechanical issues, and then I sold it cheap to a teenager who was thrilled to have it as her first car.

My family used to own a nice convertible. One day, someone wasn’t paying attention and crashed their car into our convertible. The convertible was wrecked beyond repair. We decided to get a PT Cruiser shortly after and we still have it after 12 years
