People from a country that previously was a dictatorship: What are some remnants?

everyone’s still kinda communist

The Chilean Constitution, writing this makes me angry. We hope to change this in October.

The royal family .

It’s been over 40 years and there’s still people denying crimes and human rights abuse that happened under the dictatorship, and the same people still praise a dictator that has been proved to be corrupt and inefficient. Politics are somewhat more divisive and polarized than in other countries and there’s two sides which blindly defends their heroes and still viciously attack each other. I always thought as time went by newer generations would get a more rational and less passionate account of our history but the hate is passed from parents to their children.

For some reason the very term “human rights” is now used by the right wing as a derogatory term much like how *snowflake” is used in US politics.

Most of the monuments and honors bestowed during the dictatorship have been removed, not without some strong opposition. We still have a luxury prison for ex military and civil collaborators of the dictatorship who committed serious crimes like murder and torture.

The economic system built by the dictatorship alongside with some of the most powerful families and business partners has perpetuated a brutal economic disparity which led to the first social uprising since the dictatorship that’s currently on pause due the pandemic, but the big business snd corporations have the law on their side and usually abuse their position towards the consumer with very little possibility of a fair trial.

Chile is a very weird country.

“In Soviet Russia, remnants keep you”
