What was your “I came looking for copper but found gold” moment?

last year, my mic stopped working. so I went to a computer hardware store to get a new mic. (my headset doesn’t have a mic). I found this amazing gaming headset for half the price of my last one. It is great. The original price was 4 times. Apparently, no one got it because it was a wired headset.

TL;DR – Tried to buy a game collection that was out of stock in a lot of places, ended up with a better version of it.

I got into the Metal Gear Solid franchise pretty late, and was looking for a way to play it on my aging PS3.

My friend recommended The HD Collection, which had MGS2, MGS3, and MGS: Peace Walker

Problem is, the HD collection lacked MGS1.

Whatever. I called up branches of my local game store until I found one that had The HD Collection in stock. I asked them to reserve it for pickup.

I live in a city with several malls in close quarters, and I brain farted and drove to the wrong one. I walked into a completely different branch and didn’t realize until I was there that this wasn’t the same store I asked a reservation from. They were nice enough to look around the back rooms anyway, and found a single copy of Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection, which includes all the MGS games, and even the old 8-bit NES ones

I walked out of there with pretty much the whole pre-MGS4 franchise in a box.

The first time I saw Explosions in the Sky live. I knew they were gonna be good, but holy shit that show was incredible.

Turns out post rock mixes well with psilocybin.

When I was starting grad school, I went to the learning center to find work study as a tutor. A woman overhead my conversation and offered me a job as the technical editor for an academic journal.

After I graduated and couldn’t find work in my field (history), I became an editor.

When someone i liked used an attack on titan reference (it’s an anime) so i started watching it and now it is my favorite show
