What’s your opinion on what’s about to happen to Hong Kong?

The CCP will, unfortunately, likely snuff out any opposition–it’s how they operate. Other countries are preoccupied with the coronavirus and the resulting economic fallout, not that there’s too much they’d be willing or able to do under more normal circumstances.

I legitimately wish that the U.K. had never returned control to China.

It’s a fucking shame. I’ve never liked the CCP but Xi has really upped the ante.

The world isn’t going to lift a finger though. We’ve already shrugged at the Uighur concentration camps

Terrible, sad, not surprising. The grim truth is this was the end result of the UK transfer. Hong Kong was deliberately made as “unpalatable” for China to unify as possible, for a lot of reasons. But nobody is crossing China like that right now. Whatever political winds are blowing on a world scale, they don’t involve stopping this slide.

It’s awful. I wish it was the first or last awful thing I’ll live through. At this point I don’t miss Clinton for anything more than I was a kid who could just trust in an ideal a little more than living the reality of what humanity is, has been, and continues to be to each other.

We’re getting there. But in this case? No, I’m afraid things are well and truly fucked, has been for 23 years now.

I think that works leaders should stop being pussies and step in. It’s not going to stop at Hong Kong. They’re eyeing Taiwan, and want to control the whole world. Sooner or later they’re coming for your freedoms too.

Nothing that wasn’t going to happen within the next 25 or so years, anyway. The PRC has finally decided that Hong Kong’s economic benefits no longer outweigh the headaches of putting up with a liberal (and more importantly seditious) democracy on their doorstep.
