You’ve been given $1M, but you’re not allowed to work and have to make it last your lifetime. How would you go about doing so?

Well, I’m 54. It wouldn’t be that difficult. 25,000 a year would last me 40 yrs. No way am I living that long. I can easily get by on that.

I’d buy a farm and become so self sufficient that I’d barley have to spend the rest of my money. And with that I mean grow all my own foods, not to sell, seeing that might be considered as work. It’s my dream anyway 🙂

Just live within my means like normal, don’t spend frivolously. $1M is a lot of money, I could easily stretch it for a lifetime.

Buy SP500 index and live off the ~2% dividend yield that grows at approx 10% per year. The first 5 or so years could be a bit tight… you get about $20k to live off of the first year or $1660 per month. Go live someplace cheap like a king. After 4 years you’re getting about $30k per year and after 10 years you’re getting 52k per year. In 17 years you’re getting about $100k per year. You can do even better if you can live below your means and reinvest dividends.
