In my calculus class we were working on compounded interest problems. The girl with the highest grade asked how banks can afford to give interest. She was shocked to find that banks invest your money and pay you a small percentage.
I went to college in a different state than the one I grew up in. I was once visiting my parents and someone asked me why I would decide to study elsewhere when there was a good state school there. I just told them that I earned a good scholarship, which I did.
It’s surprising how many people are unwilling to move away from where they were born, even for a short time.
