I was gonna say lobster, but everyone beat me to it. So the only other one I can think of is gin. If I recall correctly, at one point in time in England it was considered a poor man’s drink, and they attempted to ban it or taxed the hell out of it because it was seen as a danger to society. You know, because if poor people like gin, it must be the cause of all their problems, right?

Not quite trashy but having tanned skin used to be considered a sign of poverty whereas now, it’s a desired look and people like Trump will pay to fake that look
