Non Americans who have visited the USA, what surprised you?

The amount of people who thought me and my family were Australian when we’re actually British.

How friendly people were and how clean it was everywhere.

How nice most of you are (once you get passed customs anyway), and the huge amount of flags.

That you guys don’t include taxes in your prices. Went to a convenience store to get a drink and was very confused when the price labelled was different at checkout.

Good: Very welcoming people. Americans will invite you into their home after knowing you for 5 minutes. Also, very helpful when you are new to the place, showing you around, etc.

Bad: Poverty and derelict infrastructure everywhere once your off mainstreet. I have been to Easter Europe in the late 80s and there are places in the US that look and feel worse.

Neutral: Everything has to be gigantic. From buildings to cars, food portions, airports, everything except spoons. Those are ridiculously small for some reason.
